This work was originally published under the title The English physician. An English pharmacologist, Culpeper wrote a successful pharmacopoeia. His herbal, published in 1653, was used as the basis for many herbals during the next two centuries. This 19th c. edition, containing hundreds of colored illustrations of plants, is particularly striking.
