For more information on this author or work, see number: 52

This treatise is Paul's major book on surgery and, together with Opus divinum, completes his great work on medicine. It is here translated by Joannes Bernardus Felicianus (ca. 1490-ca. 1552) who was professor of medicine, linguistics, and philosophy at Pavia. One of the most comprehensive works on ancient surgery, it contains original descriptions of trephining, paracentesis, lithotomy, and tonsillectomy as well as one of the most comprehensive accounts of ophthalmic surgery. A brief section at the end of the book contains Thorer's corrections to his translation of Opus divinum.
