This second edition of Leichtenstern's treatise on influenza excludes his work on dengue fever and is here edited by Sticker (see No. 2235 ff.). Sticker felt that enough new information about the nature and treatment of influenza had been reported to justify a new edition of Leichtenstern's book. In addition, Sticker decided to place considerably more emphasis on the clinical aspects of influenza because that is where many of the advances had been made. The treatise appears here as Volume IV, Part I of Nothnagel's Spezielle Pathologie und Therapie.
