Published shortly after Darwin’s On the Origin of the Species, this work of Broca’s presented both agreeing and opposing viewpoints. While admitting admiration for Darwin’s accomplishments, Broca stated that he was “not a Darwinist” and believed that there were too many differences between groups of animals to point to their descent from a single source.
