Parker was best known as a successful syphilographer and wrote extensively on the subject. The present work, first published at London in 1839, went through five editions. In the book Parker comprehensively discusses syphilitic diseases, their manifestations and treatment. Parker included gonorrhea as a "first class of primary syphilitic diseases" (p. 28) and relied heavily on mercurial remedies in his treatment of all venereal diseases.
