Spallanzani's fellow naturalist, Jean Senebier (1742-1809), has here translated the first six dissertations on digestion from his Dissertazioni di fisica animale e vegetabile (Modena, 1780). This is the first separate edition of the most important part of that work. Senebier, a Swiss, was also a pastor and librarian of the republic of Geneva. He became acquainted with Spallanzani during the summer of 1779 when Spallanzani was visiting Bonnet (see No. 947) in Geneva and the two became good friends.
