Tissot collected material for many years for his important treatise on nervous diseases. His work is especially important because of his numerous condensations of previous literature and his precise references to many writers otherwise forgotten or overlooked. One of the most significant portions of this work is his monograph on epilepsy which had appeared separately several years earlier. Over all, Tissot's importance is due to his clear differentiation between diseases of the nervous system and the pathology of the other body systems, which laid the foundation of modern neurology.
