For more information on this author or work, see number: 739

The present work is an English translation of Tractatus de viribus medicamentorum (see No. 752) made by John Martyn (1699-1768), a fellow of the Royal Society and professor of botany at Cambridge. Martyn made his translation from a Latin edition published at Paris in 1727. Also included with this work are two letters given the publisher by Pietro Antonio Michelotti (1673-1740), professor of medicine at Venice, during a visit to Paris. Michelotti asked that they be added at the end of some work of Boerhaave's since they spoke highly of Boerhaave. Both letters were to Giovanni Baptista Verna (b. 1714), then a physician at Padua. One was from Antonio Maria Zanini (fl. 1720), a Veronese physician, and the other was from Carlo Pasini (fl. 1720), a Venice practitioner.
