The present work was originally issued as Volume II of the fourth edition (1694) of Mauriceau's Traité des maladies des femmes grosses, et de celles qui sont accouchées. It is a compendium of seven hundred case histories dealing with pregnancy and childbirth as well as with the diseases and problems of the newborn. Mauriceau's case histories are models of clear and succinct description, revealing him to be a skilled and experienced practitioner.
