The present work, first published in 1672, is devoted to the placenta of the calf. Hoboken referred frequently to the work of Harvey (see No. 416 ff.), Blasius (see No. 558 ff.), and Walter Needham (1631?-1691). He also discussed the origin and function of the amniotic fluid which was widely debated at that time.
