Although the title page indicates that there are two dissertations in this work, only De bombyce is present in this issue. Malpighi was interested in silkworms and their cultivation and in this treatise he discusses their external form, musculature, tracheae, nerves, heart, intestines, genitourinary tract, and silk-spinning apparatus. Much of the silkworm's external and internal anatomy is illustrated in the twelve folding plates that follow the treatise.
