WILLIAM HARVEY (1578-1657) Opera. Apud Johannem van Kerckhem 1737 Editio novissima. Vol. I: [16] 169-170, 167 pp., [1] fold. plate; Vol. II: [22] 404 [38] pp. 19.5 cm.

For more information on this author or work, see number: 416

Harvey's major works in Latin were only printed twice in collected form. The first was in the present volume and the second at London in 1766. However, both texts had previously been included in Le Clerc (see No. 681 ff.) and Manget's (see No. 683) Bibliotheca anatomica (Geneva, 1685). The first part, De motu cordis, was published separately by Kerckhem in 1736 (See No. 427). Osler wrote of this edition in his Bibliotheca Osleriana: "A beautiful edition and worthy of B.S. Albinus (who has written the preface). He is equally famous as an anatomist and as editor, with Boerhaave, of some of the choicest illustrated works of the 18th century." In this copy the half title to Part II is wanting as are the blank leaves listed by Keynes.
