WILLIAM HARVEY (1578-1657) Recentiorum disceptationes de motu cordis, sanguinis, et chyli, in animalibus. Ex officina Joannis Maire 1647 267, 84, 240, 51, 104 pp., plates. 18.3 cm.

For more information on this author or work, see number: 416

Although the present work is chronologically the sixth edition of De motu cordis, it is actually a reprint of the 1639 edition (see No. 417) with Parisano's refutations printed in the same fashion. Also included with De motu cordis are treatises by James Primerose, Walaeus, Henricus Regius (see No. 479), and Roger Drake (1608-1669) on the pros and cons of Harvey's research and theories. In addition to these works, the 1640 edition of Gaspare Aselli's (see No. 454) De lactibus sive lacteis venis is included in the book. Johann Friedrich Blumenbach (see No. 1113), a previous owner of this book, has made several annotations which record his rediscovery of the lacteal vessels which were traced by Aselli to the mesenteric glands but not followed to the thoracic duct.
