In this work on dysentery Fabricius discusses its etiology, clinical signs, prognosis, and prevention. He recognized four varieties of diarrhea common to the malady and differentiated among them. It was his opinion that there were many possible causes of the disease and considered the teeth, weather conditions, and certain types of drugs to be among them. He believed that the condition was communicable and developed a bed pan and two types of enema syringes to be used in treating patients.
