For more information on this author or work, see number: 32

Relatively few editions of Aretaeus' complete extant works have been published since the Latin and Greek editions of the 1550s. Only one edition was published during the seventeenth century, two during the eighteenth century, and two in the nineteenth century. This edition follows the 1723 publication by John Wigan (1695-1739) at the Clarendon Press in Oxford. Edited here by Hermann Boerhaave (see No. 739 ff.), it contains the Greek and Latin text in parallel columns. Boerhaave published the first edition of this work in 1731 and the present work is a reprint of that edition with an altered title page. It is an important critical edition and contains the notes and commentaries of Pierre Petit (1617-1687), John Wigan, and Daniel Wilhelm Triller (1695-1782), and is indexed by Michael Maittaire, a noted French classicist.
