The present text is considered to be a landmark in neurology because of its scholarly approach to the subject and the thorough documentation characteristic of Oppenheim's work. Seven German editions were published and the book was also translated into English (see No. 2203), Spanish, Russian, and Italian. It remained one of the most influential works in the field until well into the twentieth century.
