Like Totem and Tabu (see No. 2180), this work in group psychology represented a new and wholly original contribution to social psychology. By applying his "libido theory" to group structure, Freud provided new insight into such considerations as leadership, discipline, identification, love, the herd instinct, and the place and evolution of the ego within the context of group dynamics.
