This volume was prepared to commemorate the fiftieth anniversary of Osler's death and contains a foreword by John P. McGovern, fourth president of the American Osler Society. McGovern notes that Osler "entreated his audience to establish the habit of living for the day, thereby gaining mastery over body and mind" (p. vi). McGovern inscribed this copy "To Bill Bean, Sir William Osler Professor of Medicine and the first President of the American Osler Society."
