This work was compiled by Charles Nicoll Bancker Camac (1868-1940) who commented that "For my own purposes, in order to renew from time to time the influence which, as pupils and internes, we had come to depend upon, I have for some years made extracts from Dr. Osler's Lectures and Addresses" (p. viii). Camac selected from forty-seven of Osler's literary and scientific publications for the book. This presentation copy with Osler's calling card afixed to the front flyleaf was presented to Campbell P. Howard "with Xmas greetings." Howard was chief of internal medicine from 1910 to 1924 at the University of Iowa's College of Medicine.
