ANTOINE FRANCOIS ADOLPHE DELABARRE (1819-1878) De la gutta-percha et de son application aux dentures artificielles en remplacement des plaques métalliques et des substances osseuses corruptibles. Victor Masson 1852 54 pp., fold. plate. 24.2 cm.
Delabarre, son of the noted French dentist, Christophe François Delabarre (see No. 1402), was a leader in introducing etherization into French dental practice and was among the early users of gutta-percha as a temporary filling material. The present work was written only a few years after gutta-percha came into use in the late 1840s as a temporary filling and base plate material. Its use spread quickly because it was the best material available until amalgam was perfected later in the century. Delabarre discusses here the use of gutta-percha as a filler material, its use in preparing base plates and in making dentures.
