This concise, common-sense approach to the many problems of infancy was very well received, had a wide circulation, and went through many editions. John Bell's (see No. 1552) preface and supplementary chapter at the end of the book emphasize special needs for infant care in the United States where the climate and living conditions were different than in Scotland.
