For more information on this author or work, see number: 1186
Hydrotherapy was a common form of treatment among the ancients, but it was not until the controlled experiments of James Currie (see No. 1144) that such therapy was approached on a rational basis. Bell was a successful Philadelphia physician whose knowledge of bathing is readily apparent in this detailed work which covers not only the clinical application of bathing but also its historical and geographical aspects.
