Hodge's eyesight failed him during his later years and this work was dictated largely from memory. It is his chief work and became the standard work on the subject until the early years of the twentieth century. The author opens with an excellent review of the history of obstetrics, describes the normal and abnormal female pelvis, and discusses normal and abnormal parturition. The plates and illustrations depict variations in anatomy, fetal positions, instruments, and the fetal skeleton.
