This report on Asiatic cholera first appeared in the Dublin journal of medical science in January 1840. Later in the year it was included in this volume of Dunglison's American Medical Library entitled Medical and surgical monographs. In the paper Graves discusses the origin and spread of the disease throughout the world and in many instances provides data on mortality and survival rates. Although he does not speculate on the cause of cholera Graves does note that it "seems regulated by no common physical circumstances, except human traffic and human intercourse. . . ." (p. 301).
