Cazenave gave the first description of pemphigus foliaceus ("Cazenave's disease") in 1844 and a definitive description of lupus erythematosus in 1850. With its hand-colored plates drawn from living subjects, this work depicts various diseases of the scalp. Favus, impetigo, psoriasis, achores, eczema, herpes, and vitiligo are vividly depicted. This was one of the first monographs to be devoted solely to common diseases of the scalp. The symptoms, management, and treatment of many diseases, besides those illustrated, are included by Cazenave.
