This three volume set contains many of the clinical lectures delivered by Velpeau at l'Hôpital de la Charité during his early years as chief surgeon. The lectures cover the period from 1834 through 1840 and are a fine example of the breadth and depth of Velpeau's medical interests. Among the many lectures in the set are those on eye diseases, the treatment of gonorrhea, diseases of the female breast, fractures, amputations, anal and vesicovaginal fistulas, abscesses, cancer of the lips, accidents caused during catheterization, and a lengthy summary in Volume III of the many cases studied during the 1839-1840 academic year. The lectures in Volumes I and III of the set were assembled by P. Pavillon (fl. 1840) and those in Volume II by Gustave Jeanselme (fl. 1840).
