Granville Sharp Pattison (1791-1851), professor of anatomy at the University of New York, was induced to edit this first American edition of Cruveilhier's noted anatomy (see No. 1480) "on account of its decided superiority to any other work on Anatomy which has ever been published. . . ." (Editor's Preface, p. iv). The work was translated into English by William Herries Madden (fl. 1840) and includes woodcut illustrations from the works of noted anatomists of the day.
