First edition of this treatise on descriptive anatomy. Gurlt, Hirsch and others believe his chief service to science was to recognize the need of clinical and pathologic-anatomical observation as the single rational basis for any advance in medical learning. Pazzini declared that Benedetti was the first physician to attempt anatomical preparations of muscles, vessels and nerves by drying them. Gurlt indicated that Benedetti’s Anatomice was the best work of the pre-Vesalian period. (L.R. Lind, Studies in Pre-Vesalian Anatomy).
