For more information on this author or work, see number: 1392

This work was first published at London in 1818 and received wide approval from the medical community. The majority of the book is devoted to the history, diagnosis, prognosis, and therapy for scarlet fever, pulmonary consumption, and measles. Also included in the book are his Observations on the efficacy of sulphureous waters in chronic complaints and a short section on the use of the balsam of copaiva in inflammations of the mucous membranes. However, Armstrong limits his discussion of the use of this medication chiefly to cases of gonorrhea. A resinous substance from Brazil, it was administered orally with water and sugar and, according to Armstrong, usually achieved successful results.
