JOHN ARMSTRONG (1784-1829) Facts and observations relative to the fever commonly called puerperal. Oliver D. Cooke 1823 1st American from the 2nd London ed. vi [2] 120 pp. 21.7 cm.
Armstrong pursued his medical studies at Edinburgh where he graduated in 1807. He soon entered private practice at Sunderland where he was elected physician to the dispensary in 1811. After the successful reception of his first two books, he relocated at London in 1818. The following year he was appointed physician to the London Fever Hospital and began teaching medicine privately. He became so popular as an instructor that he resigned his hospital post in 1824 in order to devote more time to teaching. The present work was first published at London in 1814 and the second edition appeared in 1819 so "that the particulars latterly acquired should be embodied with those formerly published, in order to fix the work on a broader and more substantial basis" (Preface [7]).
