It was only five years after Bateman's work was published in London that it appeared in the United States. Willan had recognized eight orders of skin diseases: papulae, squamae, exanthemata, bullae, pustulae, vesiculae, tubercula, and maculae. These eight orders are all depicted in the colored frontispiece.
