This treatise on the smallpox vaccination had an enormous effect in swaying professional and public attitude in favor of the procedure. An exceptionally fine portrait of Edward Jenner (see No. 1086 ff.) and four hand-colored plates showing vaccinia pustules add to the beauty of this work.
