Sacco was Italy's first and most enthusiastic supporter of vaccination and, in this work, the first of three he wrote on the subject, he gives a history of vaccination and his plan for the inoculation of the population of Lombardy. By 1809, 1,400,000 persons had been vaccinated by Sacco or his associates.
