Even though the first edition of this work (see No. 1225) was so successful that all copies were sold, Cooper had been forced to invest a thousand pounds of his own funds because production costs were so high. This second edition was edited by Charles Aston Key (see No. 1498) and was published at London in 1827 under the present title. The work underwent a number of revisions, had more plates added, was reduced in size, and made into a single volume.
