For more information on this author or work, see number: 1098

The present work is one of three manuscripts (see No. 1102) given to Francesco Antommarchi (see No. 1353) for editing and publication after Mascagni's death. The book, which deals with histological investigations on the anatomy of the human body, animals, and plants, was first published at Florence in 1819. An accompanying atlas contained twenty copperplates drawn and engraved by Antonio Serantoni. The title was likely selected by Mascagni but was a poor choice because the book had no connection to his Anatomia universa (see No. 1102). The arrangement of the text and illustrations were not well received and Tommaso Farnese (see No. 1352), a Milanese surgeon and teacher, prepared and edited this second edition.
