ERNST PLATNER (1744-1816) Quaestiones medicinae forensis; et, Medicinae studium octo semestribus descriptum. Apud Leopoldum Voss 1824 xviii, 494 pp., front. (port.). 20.2 cm.
Son of Johann (see No. 824), Ernst was professor of medicine and philosophy at Leipzig and a staunch supporter of Stahl's (see No. 701) doctrines. Edited by Choulant (see No. 1474), the present work contains forty-four observations on forensic medicine written by Platner between 1797 and 1817. The brief investigations cover the medicolegal aspects of a wide variety of subjects including insanity, poisoning, quackery, senility, and infanticide. Platner was interested in medical education and his detailed description of an eight semester course of medicine is also included in the book. Choulant opens the book with a brief life and bibliography of Platner.
