Jean Marie Jacquemier was a French “accoucheur” (male midwife) of the 19th century. He was a member of the National Academy of Medicine in France, and practiced medicine and obstetrics in Paris until his death in 1879. The obstetric term “Jacquqemier’s sign” (the deepening colored of vaginal mucosa in early stages of pregnancy) was named after him. This two-volume work is his manual of midwifery, diseases of pregnant women, and diseases of women in childbirth.
