Domestic medicine was translated into all the principal European languages and was even more popular on the Continent and in the United States than in Scotland. It was so highly esteemed in Russia that the Empress awarded the author a gold medal and a letter of commendation. It first appeared in America in 1771 and is here edited by the Philadelphia physician, Samuel Powel Griffitts (1759-1826).
