For more information on this author or work, see number: 968

The publisher, James Webster, notes in the Preface that this edition was taken verbatim from Joseph Adams' (1756-1818) London edition of 1810. An earlier edition of Hunter's work had appeared in Philadelphia in 1791 but it was without the introduction and commentary of Adams which are contained in this edition. Adams began his medical career as an apothecary and later received a medical degree from Aberdeen. He practiced on the island of Madeira for some years before returning to London for the remainder of his career. He was a strong supporter of vaccination and wrote widely on a variety of medical subjects. A great admirer and student of Hunter's, he also wrote a biography of Hunter in 1816.
