Complete Record - Heirs of Hippocrates No. 959

RUDOLPH AUGUSTIN VOGEL (1724-1774) Historia materiae medicae ad novissima tempora producta in usum academicum. Apud Tobiam Goebhard 1764 404 pp. 16.6 cm.

Vogel, a German physician, taught and practiced in Erfurt for several years before joining the faculty at Göttingen. He wrote a number of works on chemistry, therapeutics, and pharmacy. In this work on the history of the materia medica, Vogel discusses the remedies then in use from an historical point of view by reviewing the literature of his time and presenting a synopsis of what the leading authorities thought about the uses of each remedy. In addition to medicines actively used in practice, Vogel includes remedies that were even then considered obsolete.
