Le Camus, a French physician, was professor of medicine and surgery at Paris and published several popular treatises on general medicine which were reprinted in multiple editions during his lifetime. The present work is an English translation of the French language work which went through three editions. According to the preface, this "is a translation of an Arabian manuscript, which Diamantes Utasto, physician to the Turkish Ambassador, brought to Paris in the year 1740." Abdeker, the Arabian author of this treatise on the cultivation and preservation of beauty, is known to have lived in the latter half of the twelfth century.
