Hundertmark was professor of medicine and later professor of physiology, anatomy, and surgery at the University of Leipzig. He first published this work in 1739, and in it he discusses the ancient custom of exposing patients in the streets and temples in the hope of meeting people who had suffered and recovered from the same disease.
