Pott's three best-known contributions were on tuberculosis of the spine (Pott's disease), puffy tumor (associated with osteomyelitis of the skull), and the present work on fractures. His discussion of fractures and dislocations included a common fracture of one or both bones just above the ankle, which some feel may have been the compound fracture of the leg that he suffered early in his career. His description of the physiology and pathological findings resulted in the eponym, Pott's fracture.
