Dimsdale's treatise quickly became popular and was already in its fourth edition only a year after it was published. This copy of the sixth edition, published only five years after the first, is in such fine condition that it appears to have been rarely consulted by its previous owners. The book contains an interesting advertisement which extols the virtues of several types of mineral water distributed by the printer, William Owen. Owen also marketed tar water "made according to Bishop Berkley's Directions" (see No. 804) and "Sea-Water in its utmost Purity, taken up several Leagues at Sea."
