Heirs of Hippocrates

The Development of Medicine in a Catalogue of Historic Books

Complete Record - Heirs of Hippocrates No. 893

ALBRECHT VON HALLER (1708-1777) Bibliotheca medicinae practicae. Apud Joh. Schweighauser 1776-1788 26.8 cm.

For more information on this author or work, see number: 880

The last and largest of Haller's monumental bibliographies, this one cites 11,400 authors. Since only three of the four volumes had been published before Haller's death, Joachim D. Brandis (1762-1845) used Haller's notes to complete and edit the remaining volume. Haller's bibliographical achievements were remarkable and he may truly be credited as the founder of medical bibliography.
