The first of Haller's four great bibliographies, this work cites over five thousand authors and, along with Bibliotheca anatomica, is the best of the four because of Haller's special interest and expertise in botany and anatomy. Defects in the index were corrected in 1908 when J. Christian Bay published an enlarged and more thorough index.
