This long, comprehensive work on pharmacology was widely used by Lieutaud's contemporaries and it went through at least four editions. In 1770, he published Synopsis universae praxeos medicae and the present work is his translation of the second part of that work. The first part was translated in 1765, and it, too, went through at least four editions. In the preface, Lieutaud indicates that he tried with each revision to bring his material up to date.
