He was instrumental in the founding of the Medical & Anatomical school at Edinburgh; he, his son (secundus), and his grandson (tertius) together held the chair of anatomy at Edinburgh for 126 consecutive years. The biographical portion of the present work was contributed by primus’ other son, David. This volume contains Monro primus’ 55 works on: anatomy of human bones and nerves; comparative anatomy; & the first edition of his tract on the skin (de Cuticula Humana); as well as lesser known pieces on asthma, surgery, obsterics [sic], orthopaedics, ophthalmology, etc.
