Morandi, who called himself "Botanicus, Galenicus, Pictor," was an Italian botanist and illustrator. The 544 illustrations of medicinal plants, drawn by Morandi, make this one of the most beautiful and important Italian herbals of the eighteenth century. Cardamom, anise, valeran, digitalis, and veronica, as well as many other plants, are described and pictured. Along with the detailed horticultural classification of each plant, Morandi includes information regarding its medicinal uses.
