Le Dran's popular surgical text was reprinted in Brussels in 1745, translated into English in 1749, and subsequently went through several English editions. The work is broad in scope and reflects his wide range of clinical experience in the hospitals of Paris. Although he devoted a significant portion of the book to bladder stones, his specialty, he also covers urology, amputation, plastic surgery, surgery of the head, various orthopedic procedures, gangrene, sutures, and inflammation. The single plate shows a bladder stone and two instruments used in lithotomy.
